Students who wish to come to mobility at Modern Business School do not need to speak Serbian, since the study programs are accredited by the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education, in compliance with the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia, both in Serbian and English.
The minimum level of English for incoming students is B1 (intermediate) according to the Learning Agreements. The sending institution is responsible for the proper preparation of their mobility participants. Nevertheless, the incoming mobility participants will receive free of charge the appropriate linguistic support and opportunity to strengthen their language skills at Modern Business School.
All incoming participants are encouraged to attend a special Serbian language course at beginner level, organized for mobility participants at the beginning of each semester. Serbian grammar is rather difficult and it will take some time to acquire the language properly, but learning the basics of Serbian will help the incoming students and staff members adapt to the new environment and communicate on a daily basis.
Classes are organized twice a week, class duration is 60 minutes. All classrooms have modern equipment and courses can be organized for individuals or groups. The aim of the course is to help students acquire basic language skills so that they feel confident to engage in daily life in Serbia. The course focuses on the practical use of the language in real-life situations and simple interactions with native speakers, according to the immediate needs of incoming students and staff.
Students whose first language is not English will be offered support to improve fluency and accuracy during general courses for all levels. Modern Business School wants to help students reach their full potential and succeed in their future career. That is why we also organize preparation courses for internationally recognized English language exams – IELTS and TOEFL. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular English language test, which is the entry requirement for universities in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. It is also widely accepted by many governments and international companies. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is the preferred English language qualification and entry requirement for American and Canadian universities. These two certificates are used around the world in the academic field. The courses focus on developing all four language skills – reading, listening, writing and speaking, and classes are organized in small groups, twice a week for 60 minutes.
All students, teaching and non-teaching staff who participate in mobility programs must have the required level of English language competence. When it comes to the selection procedure, the outgoing participants will be obliged to take English oral and written tests, in order to determine the level of their proficiency. A B1 level of English for students and B2 level for staff are the minimum levels of language competence necessary for the participation.
Modern Business School will assess whether the applicants who do not have the necessary level of linguistic proficiency can reach it, and organize additional classes or English language course for them, so that they would be well-prepared for the outgoing mobility.
